I have a old computer. It has a Cirrus Logic Video Card. When I put it in 256 Colors or higher when I open a program like My Computer parts of it go all over the screen but it opens and you can see but there are lines all over the place. The thang is I can play Quake2 and have the best pic ever. or like the full version of Slingo the best pic. but why is my desktop messed up like that??¿ I would love it if you can help me I been lookin for help for about 10Weeks Thanks.

have you tried Updating your drivers?

or playing with the refresh rate

or leave the desktop to the setting that works good and when you play a game change the settings in the game.

I would check the Refresh Rate and if the problem still persists I would check the card on another machine. Maybe it's dying..

i think that adjusting youre refresh rates
display properties , advanced settings adapter , refresh choose a lower one then optimal and tell the adapter what monitor you have on the pc , or it will try and use diferent refresh rates then the monitor atached to the pc
exaple the refresh rate is where the guns in the back of the picture tube repaint the screen in front of you
the refresh rate is the amount in seconds that the guns repaint the screen so to say
if the screen cant keep up it does its best to figure out whats it should do
heres a nice tip try holding the shift key down or f5/or f8 and get it into safe mode
its easyer to do it from there when you can see everything

It may be that you have an older low-memory slow-RAMDAC Cirrus Logic card, the problems you are describing are kind of "the nature of the beast". If you haven't already, install DirectX 6, it contains updated WHQL drivers for Cirrus Logic cards. They might lessen, if not eliminate, the trouble you're having. Good luck.
