i only have 16!!!!

my comp recently crashed and i lost everything, i installed windows, but now iv only got 16 colors!!! how do i get my 256 back??? i dont know what kind of video driver or whatever is in the comp, and iv looked, once i do find out what kind it is....what do i do then?? thanks

first go to control panel-system-device manager. see what is listed under Display adapter. Open the computer and look at the largest chip on the video card. If you don't have a separate video card, look for a chip near the video connector that has the name of a video chip maker(ATI,S3,NVIDIA,etc). Post all the info here, along with any make,model number on the computer case(ex. Compaq Presario 4552)
