[RESOLVED] Help! Monitor problems!

Well, I don't know why but my monitor is displaying only 16 colors.. it was fine before I formatted it, but now it's only using a Standard Display Adapter and using only the max.. 16 colors.. I tried to install new drivers but it can only find the Standard Display.. and I know this wasn't what I was using before I formatted the computer.. any help on this one? The easiest way to fix this is to look at the video card and see what it is and download the driver and install it.

But I have no video card! Everything is onboard.. I looked at a past post with a similar problem as mine, and it said to look for a chip somewhere near the video connector.. I tried but couldn't find anything! What am I to do now?

what is the make and model of the computer? Did you look for a chip on the motherboard with the names Cirrus Logic, S3, ATI,NVidia,Tseng,Matrox on it? These are the most common ones I have seen. Otherwise look for the three biggest chips and write down ALL the info on each one and post it and you will get help.

i am having a similar problem and i have followed the instructions that the person who replied so kindly provided. i know the make and model of my integrated video card and for some reason can't find a driver that coincides with this driver that supports windows me. should i reinstall 98 or is there a fix to get past the 16 bit only display option that i am getting right now?
if i am able to find any such info i will be back but if you could help me out as well it would be greatly appreciated!

No there is no way to get more than 16 colors without installing the video adapter driver. I should mention that the problem is not in the monitor, but in the dirver for the video adapter. andyjenks, if you post the info on your adapter we may be able to help with a compatible driver for ME. Note tha if there is no native ME driver you should try to use the win98 one. There is some hardware that support has been dropped for in WinMe but i would definitely try the win98 driver first.

Could be SiS integrated video. Try www.sis.com.tw (http://www.sis.com.tw) for drivers for your mainboard video.

Did you receive a CDROM with your computer? It normally has the drivers for all you on-board devices. If that is so, you may no have to look any further. You may also request the same from whomever you got the Computer or MOBO.
