What motherboard are you using?
If it is a VIA chipset you must install the VIA 4-1 driver for the Rage Fury Maxx to work. That's all that you should really need to do under 98.

Thanks, Where do I get the driver you mentioned, I`ve tried all the drivers on the motherboard install disk, would it be there?

Thanks again

Here's the VIA download page...
http://www.viatech.com/drivers/index.htm

You didn't say though what chipset you're using for sure..

What version of the Rage Fury maxx drivers are you using? Here is the link to the latest drivers for it under Win98/ME
I noticed that you didn't specify what OS you're using - thought I'd mention that if you're using anything other than Windows 98 or ME the Rage Fury Maxx won't work at all...
Heres that link.. http://support.ati.com/drivers/winme_4127942.html

The driver is the same for Win 98 and ME - You just need to make sure that you have direct x 7.0 installed - it should be on you Rage Fury Maxx CD if you don't have it...
Any more questions just ask...

Thank you very much for your patience Sage 19.After your last entry I did download the 4-1 drivers as you suggested, also the latest ATI drivers, things seemed to get better until the opportunity for the OS to load the card drivers-system locked!
Whilst it stays on the default drivers(16 colour!) its ok, as soon as you ask it to do anything with high res -Lock up- blank screen!
I think the dreaded VIA chipset with AMD K6-2 550 with 98/Rage Fury Maxx 64 is unstable??
Any more suggestions- all welcome, someday I will see 256 colours??

Cheers

Actually I've used the Rage Fury Maxx with Win98, the VIA MVP3 chipset and an AMD K6-2 550...
One other thing you might try, on that same download page for the VIA drivers try downloading the VIA agp 4x driver - I can't get it work the rage fury to work on my current system without that driver, but it did work for me with the 4-1 on my k6-2 system...
WAIT quick bios question...
Do you have assign IRQ to VGA enabled or not? You have to have that option enabled for the Rage Fury Maxx to work...
If none of this works try removing all cards except for the rage fury maxx and seeing if it boots that way, could just be a conflict too. Who knows? While on the topic of conflicts, can you list your entire hardware setup for us?

Before you drive this guy nuts (sorry, man) try this:

Boot up in safe mode, go into the system tree, and delete all the monitors listed (NOT the video card). GO into display properties, and set it for 640x480x16 colors. Then reboot, and let the system detect your monitor (that's what sounds like is the problem....it might need to detect your monitor before going beyond 640x480x16). After it detects, THEN see if you can get resolutions.

Oh, and by the way, guys....as far as I know, the MVP3 chipset doesn't support AGP4x. http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smile.gif

sorry if I overloaded him... not my intention...
anyways, I know the MVP3 doesn't support AGP4x, and neither does the Rage Fury Maxx work at that speed. The only reason that I suggested it was that I got the Rage Fury Maxx to work with my system only when using that driverr, whether or not AGP 4x mode was enabled in the bios or anything. Don't ask me why, I still don't know, all I knew was that was the only way that I could get it to work under Win ME.
If anyone thinks I sound annoyed, its not because of NPaladin correcting me, just look at where I'm from and check out the whether up here... I just spent 2 hours digging my car out of snow, and a "well know college" in the area was nice and decided that they weren't going to cancel finals because of damn snow!?!?!??!??\

sorry... I feel much better now...
