OK, I'm stumped. I just tinkered a PC together for a friend (Intel Seattle MB, 650 MHz PIII, WinME) and whenever the drivers for the video adapter are installed (GeForce 2 MX) Windows detects a phantom second monitor. Settings for the twin display are even showing up in the display properties. I thought it may have been a buggy driver but I've tried older versions and the same thing happens. I uninstall the driver and run in VGA mode and things return to normal (only one monitor shows up). I hope someone here has some idea as to what's going on because I'm totally baffled!

All the Nvidia drivers do that on MX boards because the drivers can't differentiate between the single and dual versions of MX from versions 7.XX on. What is strange is that when using DirectX8 drivers with DX7 installed, DXdiag will pick up a second Video card with a whopping .5 meg memory. 2nd Default Monitor detected is normal.

Weird (and pretty shoddy). I guess that's one of the compromises you make by going with a budget chipset (yes, my friend is cheap)! http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum1/noncgi/smile.gif Still you'd think they would be able to fix that. Oh well.
Thanks. You saved me a lot of hairpulling as far as trying to fix the unfixable! Now I can move on to bigger and better things.

It's not really a flaw in the drivers themselves as all MX chipset vid cards are dual out capable just not implemented by the manufacturers to keep a budget card cheap.
