[RESOLVED] Voodoo5 not working in Win2k

I just put together an Athlon 1.4 Ghz system with an Iwill KD266 motherboard. I did a clean install of Windows 2000 Professional and all of my hardware worked perfectly except for my Voodoo5 5500 AGP card. Under the resources tab, it claims that the input/output range from C000-C0FF is unavailable. Windows 98SE running on a different hard drive on the same system runs the Voodoo fine (it uses the same I/O range without problem). What is wrong with Win2K?

Here is a link to look for latest drivers, http://www.3dfx.com/downloads.htm. Don't know if this is your problem, but worth a try perhaps. I like the Voodoo line, but they are no more, and support seems to be static. I don't look for support to last into the newer OS's. Good luck!!

I installed it with the latest Win2k drivers. Made no difference.

which says this problem occurs when the display adapter is not assigned an IRQ, but I checked and mine is assigned IRQ 11 so I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it or not.

http://www.ntcompatible.com/3dfxfaq.shtml. This is actually from another post on the video forum, I just happened to see it. Might give it a try to see if you can make that card fly. If you have access to a different vid card with support for W2k, I'd be trying that real soon. Best of luck.

The conflict is from rescoure assignment. Might try finding what has claimed the needed rescource and changing that in BIOS. I have a friend that found the order of install of various parts/pieces determined if his video card would work or not. Might be worth a try.

ok, I tried pulling out all of the cards except the voodoo, then booting to win2k and reinstalling the drivers. Still no go. I got some updated motherboard drivers and installed them, but that resulted in some strange conflict arising with the IDE controller.

Might I get some results if I formatted, pulled all the cards again, and then did a clean install of win2k with nothing but the voodoo in there?

you might want to try that,
i run win2k with a voodoo 5
and I use the driver that was posted on <a href="http://www.omegacorner.com" target="_blank">www.omegacorner.com</a> website. which is strangeley absent
i have this driver if you would like it.

Try disabling any Shadowing that is enabled in the BIOS.

OK, I have tried many drivers both official and unofficial but Windows always says I have the same resource conflict. I disabled shadowing to no avail. I did a clean install of win2k with nothing in the computer but the Voodoo card.

I have now also tried 2 other video cards (SiS 6326 AGP and Trident 9680 PCI) in the same system which showed similar conflicts.

Is there something wrong with my motherboard? Some setting I don't know about that I need to change? Its an Iwill KD266. Is this a good motherboard or did I screw myself over?

Just reviewing some post and noticed your other posts in BIOS and Hard Drives, wondering if you got your problem resolved? Kinda sounds like the HD is seriously involved in this? Let us know.

I still haven't resolved the video problem. I'm pretty sure the HD problem is unrelated and I think I fixed it this afternoon (had formatted it through the pop-up menu in explorer, went back and formatted it twice in DOS and performance was much improved). I've tried a few more drivers for the Voodoo but still no progress. The EXACT same conflict arises no matter what drivers I use. I'm becoming convinced that Win2k has an issue with my motherboard since I tried two other video cards and they didn't work either. Can anyone tell me if the Iwill KD266 is a good motherboard or do I need to think about a different one? Has anyone had success with a similar hardware combination to mine?

I went to thier web site, iwill.net, and saw that there was a BIOS released in Sep for this board. Might want to compare versions to confirm you have latest version. I didn't have a lot of time to spend there, and found the site a little twitchy, but there may be more info there, I did see that they have a DirectX download avail for example. It may be a good place to ask your basic question, also. Best of Luck!
