GeForce2 MX Driver Problem!

This problem is a strange one. My niece has a Gateway Computer with Win Me OS. The 32 meg GeForce2 MX VC keeps losing it's driver!!! Doesn't matter if it's the old Detonator 12.41 or the brand new 21.83. I've downloaded and installed the latest direct X 8. I've deleted the VC from the system installed new drivers the VC will work fine then you have to reboot and then the message the video card is not correctly configured and can't find the proper driver :mad: . The spec's are Gateway Multimedia PC. 1.1 Gig Athlon T-Bird, 384 PC100 SDRAM, propriatory MSI mobo, updated BIOS, AGP 4X and Fast Write Enabled (Gateway locks out any tweaking of the BIOS). The video card came with the original PC. I'm not sure if it's the card or the AGP slot. Unfortunately I do not have another video card to swap out. My niece wants to upgrade to Win XP but I'm not sure that's the answer. She would also like to get a new Radeon card, but again I'm not sure that's the solution. I do know that Win Me and some video drivers do not like each other. Any assistance would be appreciated! Thanks!!!

Hi PAK, I haven't had much luck finding a resolution to your problem, You may want to try 1X or 2X AGP and disable fastwrites to start. By the way, which chipset is on the motherboard? There may be something to that.

I don't know if this is a Via, but if so, you'll want to install the latest 4-in-1 drivers...

Thanks for the reply guys. I've been busy the last couple of days and just getting back to her computer. I couldn't find a solution either. It is definately a Via chipset, but is somekind of Gateway propriatory thingy :mad: . I can't even go in and play with the BIOS on the d&^n thing. I may download the lastest VIA drivers and give it a shot. In the mean time I've ordered her a new Radeon 7000 VC should be here tomorrow so I'll see if that solves her problem. :D

Try this.

Take the drivers off completely let windows find the device as Standard VGA. Reboot and see if it loses the card, if not (which I doubt) then install the drivers for your card.

It sounds like the chipset is losing the gart on reboot hence why it keeps saying you have no card and then will detect another instance of a standard VGA card.

Never could get the geforce card to work, but the Radeon card is working flawlessly! :D
