I have an AMD k6-111 450 with a Samsung SyncMaster 750S monitor. Under control panel, it identifies my display adapter as a Trident 8400 PCI/AGP. Recently, without any known action on my part, my display has become messed up. When I open any program, there is still one inch on the right side of my screen that shows my desktop. I've done all of the obvious stuff like maximizing, and attempting to drag the program window to take up the full screen, but to no avail. The cursor turns into an arrow when placed on the right side of the window, but it won't drag. Icons from my desktop won't drag into that one inch area either. My desktop background color is purple, and this one inch area does show that purple color, and I can see my pointer when I place it in that one inch area. The only program I could get to use the full screen size was MS I Explorer, when I clicked on view, and then full screen. I don't know where the problem lies - I've attempted to adjust my manual monitor settings and this hasn't helped. I was told to download perhaps a new driver for my Trident 8400 PCI/AGP, but can't find one, even on the Trident Site, as if this might be an old display adapter. That could be the case I suppose but my PC is only 6 months old, but considering the company I purchased it from and since I've already felt the pain of serious buyer's remorse, I'm sure they could have dumped some antiquated stuff on me. This problem started all of a sudden and before this, program windows did take up the full screen. Would someone please give me some suggestions to correct this, using the KISS principle (Keep It Simple, cuz I'm Stupid) if possible? Thanks alot!! Kristen

Go into control panel/system/device manager
Remove the monitor and reboot windows
It will find the monitor when it reboots, and install the drivers for it.
See if that might cure it.
It is possible, you might have a bad monitor.
Have you tried another one?

If you have already followed the instructions from the previous repondent's suggestion and it did not work, borrow a friend's computer monitor and hook it up your computer. If the problem is still there, you will know it is not your monitor. If the problem disappears, you likely have a bad monitor. If the display is alright with another monitor you will have to get the driver for your display adapter.
