I've recently installed a Creative Annihilator Pro into my system with mixed results. 2D and Direct3D work fine, but OpenGL games lock-up hard almost immediately.
I've already tried forcing AGP1X, Creative drivers v6.50, Detonator drivers v12.41 and the Creative AGP Wizard with no luck. I've downloaded several tweak programs, but would like to hear from some of you if you've found a particular trick or tweak that works.
Here's my system specs:
AMD K6-2/550MHz
FIC VA-503+ motherboard
256MB system RAM
Samsung 8.4GB hard drive
Delta 52X CD-ROM
Acer 4x2x32 CD-RW
Turtle Beach A3Dxstream sound (Vortex 1 chip)
Zoltrix 56K external modem
@ccuMouse wheel mouse
So far, I've found this to be the most friendly and helpful forum on the web; prove me right folks.
P.S. - I've got a Matrox G400 to fall back on, but I'd much rather stay in the GeForce lane. Thanks in advance for any help received.

Arrrgghh!
Just tried the Nvidia registry patch, GeForce Tweaker and Getune from tweakfiles.com - no good!
Looks like I may be forced to go back to the G400 (no,no,NO!).
Still hoping for a helpful post.

Which version of 4in1 drivers are you using?
I had a VA503+ for about a year with a GeForce DDR and it wasn't the most friendly setup but it worked well with the 4.17 drivers from VIA and Win98SE. As far as what tweaking program, All I ever used was GeTune to enable socket 7 compatability and enable coolbits. I don't know what version 503+ you have but check in the BIOS for memory interleaving and enable it and AGP aperture to 64 meg as well as leaving AGP rate to 1X mode. Also check to see if any of the Creative drivers are still hanging around. You don't want the Ref drivers and Creatives hybrid drivers trying to co-mingle.

You may want to try running the direct X diag tool by start/run then type in "dx diag " w/o the quotes.
Go under the display tab and diable direct draw and/or direct 3d acceralation.
Hopefully that will help.

If you previously had another graphics card installed before the GeForce, go to the following registry key using regedit:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\OpenGLdrivers
and remove any keys except the RIVATNT key. Try the following instructions: Click Start / Run. Type "win.ini" (without quotes) and press OK. Search for a line that says "DVA=0" (without quotes). Add a semicolon ; before the DVA. The line should now look like this: ";DVA=0" (without quotes). Save and close the file. If you find this causes more problems, just take out the semicolon. The setting refers to Direct Video Access, it should not cause any problems when enabled.
Note that not everyone has this line, and if there is none you'll have to try another solution. Hope this helps you!

I agree with the previous post as far as the 4in1 driver goes. Make sure you are using the correct one.

WOW! Just checked back today, LOTS of helpful information.
I'm presently running 4in1 drivers v4.32 (I've never had bad results using the latest motherboard drivers).
I'm going to give all of your suggestions a try when I get home tonight (I would never have thought of disabling DirectX features).
Thanks again everybody, and here's hoping!

Man, I must truly be cursed!
I tried all of your suggestions and found things to change/correct/delete, and still the best I get is when I can ESCape out of Half-Life when it locks at the loading (Gordon picture) screen. Quake 2 still locks hard when I try to enable OpenGL acceleration.
I'm running the latest/last revision of the VA-503+ board with the special BIOS for those still using an AT case/power supply (I know, "C'mon clown!! Get with the times!!!").
It's the revision that's approved for AMD up to 550MHz. I must have gotten mine later than yours, Silverman, the drivers that came with mine were v4.20.
I guess I have to face two facts:
1)The VA-503+ is not the greatest motherboard (I've been told a few times in other posts and forums).
2)Like it or not, the Matrox G400 is the only video card to run well at all in my system, even if it's not the hottest gaming card in the world.
Thanks again everyone for the speed and variety of your responses. You proved me completely right about the Windrivers forums.
I'll store the GeForce and use it as a starter card in my next system and revert to the G400 for now (at least it works with what I've got).
Best to everyone!
