Ok - so I am not all that technical.. BUT I recently upgraded a 800mhz Duron PC (with a DVD/CD drive) which had come with a poxy 8mb card (ATI again)to a ATI Rage Fury 32mb card which looks fine.

For my OLD 8mb card, I obtained an ATI CDRom which contained a DVD player and which added this to the CD Music player, and a Video editor (One of those "Launchpad" suites)

When I added the DVD player, it installed Ok but DVD's would not play "Not enough Video memory" (of course! Only 8mb!)hence my upgrade.

Do I now need a NEW CDRom for the new card?
The DVD player just says ATI - no mention of card types supported.
If I place this CD Rom in the drive, it autoplays and screws up the display and locks up the PC leading me to press reset as the only option.

Does ATI sell (or give away) a seperate DVD player? - for this card only? I cant find mention of this anywhere.

Any help much appreciated, Thanks

;)

Only the one that is supplied under the MMCDVD folder on the Driver CD.

The Software DVD player/Video Card and the actual DVD-ROM drive are separate. The DVD software player that came with your original 8mb card should work with new Card. I would make sure you uninstall the original 8mb card's drivers, then uninstall the ATI software DVD player. After a reboot, install the ATI 32mb video card, then reinstall the ATI DVD player. Your DVD drive will use whatever software player you have and doesn't need to be changed.

The software DVD player ATI uses is proprietary. Meaning it wont play if there is anohter type of video card installed, one such as a nVidia based card.

If the player still doesn't work, you could visit the windrivers.com page and look up the DVD player sites. ATI basically uses a modified version of the WinDVD program. I have used WinDVD and PowerDVD and prefer PowerDVD.
