Which video card is better....
Voodoo 5 5500 AGP 64M RAM (Dual 350mhz DAC)
or
Matrox Millenium G-450 DualHead 32M DDR RAM (Single 360Mhz DAC) + TV Out + DVD/MPEG Decoder ... (****ty 3D!!)

Pretty Much looking for an overal vote... I got the matrox G-450 and the 2d is smokin!! but the 3D sucks... where the voodoo5 5500 which I also just got has smokin 3D and good 2D but many less features... I hate decisions.. I guess if it pisses off my g/friend than its good :)

I would say the Matrox. The 3D is not all that bad and the 2D is blinding.
The Voodoo, since it was taken over by Nvidia, are getting supported less while the Matrox will have regular updates etc.

Tough choice. I'd have to take the Matrox G450. Dual displays and the fastest 2D performance around is hard to beat. But then I'm into CAD and business apps way more than 3D games nowadays so I'm leaning that way.

If you want to play 3D go without hesitation with a Voodoo5 .
Even without new drivers support there is no doubt that the V5 is a better choice (much better open GL , glide support ect ).
By the way i play anything on mine , and the picture quality/performance is still very good. Until an afordable G3 or Radeon 2 i'll stick with it .

Im a pretty big fan of the whole VooDoo series. I use several VooDoo3 2000 cards. They run OpenGL and Glide suported applications VERY WELL! However...since they are gone now...Dont expect Driver updates and improvements. I was lucky that 3Dfx released updated drivers for VooDoo3 cards just a few months before they poofed. My VooDoos dont do D3D as well though. I dont expect any good Glide games in the future either....hehe (too bad 3DRealms and DukeNukemForever). Without a doubt the VooDoo is a good OGL and glide card, so you may want to consider the D3D aspect.

Trying... not... to .... reply.... AAAAHHHH!!
Neither. I have a V5 and it is awesome. 2D quality is super too. However, as it has been mentioned the driver support is zero. Unless x3dfx gets some cash there will never be another driver revision. That dates the card before you open the box.
Matrox and games just don't go together any more. If you play 1 game a week for 2-3 hours then maybe yes... Otherwise start looking out for other companies. Matrox has publicly stated they aren't in the high end gaming business for the time being. The Matrox cards (G400) are dated. Hearing rumors of a G550 and the end of the G800 rumors though. Hrrmmm... I've never know someone (lately) that wasn't pleased by replacing their G400.
In your case I would suggest the Kryo2. As it's only $150 (released May 16th) and is a fast bugger it might be something I'd seriously look at. I'm looking at the Kyro and GF3 (why yes, I am saying that in the same sentence :D).
Do some research on the Kryo and check reviews sites (heh, even Tom's Hardware, lol). It truly is the best consumer based card coming out in the next few months.... This in in comparison to the GF2 MX, GF2 Pro, Radeon, etc.
