I am trying to install the ATI Rage Fury Maxx 64MB graphics card running under Windows ME. I have downloaded the driver from the ATI site version 4.12.7942 but this just doesn't work. Anyone have similiar problems or could help me please?

What are the specs for your system?
If you're using a VIA chipset try downloading the AGP4x drive from their website, I had to install that to get it to work on my ASUS A7V. the file you would want to download is agp403.exe if you have a via chipset. I've never gotten the 4in1 agp driver to work with my current setup yet with Win ME.

I had a similar problem in the past. With one m/b (Qdi Advance9), i was not able to make it function properly in Win Me. With others (based on Via 693 and 694), I had to install via agp driver in standard mode (so with agp 1X) to make it works. I hate Ati drivers! http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/mad.gif

Thanks for the replies. I am running an AMD Thunderbird 900MHZ and a KT7 motherboard. On the card itself is printed ATI rage 128 Pro. I do not know what the chipset is sorry.

The Abit KT7 is a via chipset, so hopefully the drive I listed above should help you. It uses the VIA KT133 chipset - also, try downloading the 4-1driver from VIA and installing that before you install the AGP4x driver. Make sure to install the AGP driver in turbo mode also!
Just out of curiousity, is this a home built system?

AGP mode must set 1 or 2. do not try to use 4.

Installing the agp4x drivers will NOT set the Rage Fury Maxx to run in 4X mode. I have never been able to get the agp driver that comes with the 4-1 drivers set to work properly with ME and this board. It worked under 98se, but not in ME. If he were install the AGP4x driver in normal mode, his board would only run at 1X, in turbo it will run at 2X since the Rage Fury Maxx won't run in 4X. So yes, do not change any mobo settings to try and get it run at 4x, it won't work.
Sorry if I anyone misinterpreted my intentions of having him install the agp4x drivers from VIA.

Thanks very much for all your help so far.
I have got a homebuilt system yes. I have tried loading the VIA drivers and then trying the ATI updated drivers from their site. It now works but I am still experiencing some errors i.e. blue screen on re-start.
I think I will return the card to the shop.
Can anyone tell me a good AGP card that will work under Windows ME. I am not into serious gaming so I dunno whether to go for a 32 or 64MB card.
Once again thanks for all your replies
(P.S. I don't think I'll ever buy an ATI card again!)

Well, good luck! You can almost never go wrong with Nvida or 3dfx, though it looks like Nvida has the lead right now. It you were willing to page the price for the Rage Fury Maxx I'd say find a good Nvida based card. Besides, maybe it was a blessing in disguise for you! ATI cards (except for Raedon), pretty much get blown away by everyone else in performance.
