I lost the use of the control panel. When I click on start/settings/control panel, I get a blank windows frame. All the *.cpl files in the systems directory are working. Can anybody tell me how to restore the "control panel" function? Is this a virtual folder?
Any help will be appreciated.

*.cpl files open ok but not control panel. Don't think I've seen that one before - maybe someone has and has an easy fix but if a machine hit my bench with these symptoms I would run an updated virus scan off a boot disk and reload 95/98 over itself. Just a thought http://www.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smile.gif

You can also try runnig SFC (system file checker.)

Shawn's thought is correct.
Check the system for viruses, run scandisk to check the HDD's surface and then install Windows over itself.

Control Panel is not virtual.

Thanks for the hints. The WS runs the latest dat files, so that was probably not it. The problem actually fixed itself. I booted it up in safe mode and got use of the control panel back.
