Win 95 - integer divide by zero error

Greetings all,

I have here a rather old pc with Win 95 on it. Every once in a while, it will give this message:

system error. Integer divide by zero error.

It will do this just out of the blue, sometimes running a program, sometimes just sitting there.

Any ideas?

something is running in the background, as the machine must be processing instructions to do this. i would start by looking for viruses.

The only processes running are:

Explorer
alogserv
loadwc

This machine has a very old McAfee anti-virus on it.

It might be a hardware problem.

If I remember correctly, the "integer divide by zero" error is a driver issue. Try downloading the latest drivers for your hardware.

I seem to remember defective processors causing that once in a while. By chance the processors not a p60-75 with a gold top is it?

Personally, i would ensure that Win95 has the w2k patch installed (if you can't find it at MS, email me), and i would remove that old (pre 2000??) version of McAfee for starters. Why? Well a quick search on Google came up with this:

Error: Integer Divide by 0 (Zero) -or- Divide overflow

A program tried to divide a number by zero or there was an internal logic error that caused this malfunction. Usually, the problem is simply a temporary glitch in memory or the systems clock is off.
Try the following: Restart the computer. Correct the system clock to reflect the current date and time.

as per the orig question ,,,have come across this (years ago) ,,,used to manifest itself if u were trying to run a dos prog (thru windoze) ,,mainly diagnostic ones ,,,,

I just put it down to A: win95 being crap ,,B: nasty cyrix type cpu,s C: crap sticks of memory ,,

thank god those days have gone !!!!!
