Whenever I start a program or run a installation, as I am going through the process the windows just disapear. Like it closed the program without doing anything. I am running win 98 SE. The programs are PC Anywhere & Winfax, which I am trying to re-install because they keep comming up with illeal operations. I also tried to install systemworks and as I go through the screens all of a sudden it all disapears. WHat could this be caused by?
I reinstalled Windows 98 se over existing and still the same problem.

I've had the same problem on severals machines. have you run a virus check. I would download and install AVG antivirus, run it and see if you have a virus. sounds like Klez to me. good luck

Definitely perform a full scan for viruses. If there are any then the reinstall over the existing installation will not have killed them.
There are a good few viruses out there now that attack anti virus software (Klez for example) so as WinFax Pro and pcAnywhere are affected I would think there is a good possibility that a virus could attack common Symantec files in an attempt to delete NAV and cause this problem.

Also, can you tell us the actual error messages and if any other apps are playing up?
** Edit **
Hey ToDo, Great minds think alike, you just got in ahead of me on this one, glad to see we have the same ideas.

So it was the Klez virus. I've dealt with a couple of computers with it. Its just a pain, because it can destroy certain files and attacks Executables. Some of the programs you will have to reinstall. But AVG should do the job.
also, i would recommond using this Klez removal tool. here is the link:
