Win 95 video driver killed system!

Hi all,
A friend of mine, (not me honestly!!), has killed his Windows 95 system by installing an incorrect video driver. Now it won't start up in normal or safe mode. Just hangs. Does anyone know how I can remove the old driver and replace it with the correct one or a generic driver of some sort. I have his box here with me but cannot for the life of me remember how this is done. I have read about this ages ago.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, or any pointers. Many Thanks

It must be really screwed up if it won't start in Safe Mode. Windows 3.1 had a DOS program setup.exe that would allow you to change the video driver without starting Windows. But Windows 95 had Safe Mode that served the saem purpose. Not sure how you would fix this problem. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

Try choosing step by step from the boot menu. When it prompts you to load Windows drivers, say no.

If it is onboard video, then they are probably located on the Windows 95 disk. If so, you should probably reload Windows 95 to fix it. If not you probably have to reload the drivers from the CD.

Something else you MIGHT try is to restart in DOS and type

Scanreg /restore

locate the most recent set of registry entries, if any exist and then press enter.

This won't work if someone hasn't back up the registry. IF they have however, it would restore the registry, hopefully to before these problems took place. :rolleyes:

PS. Be sure you go to DOS by pressing F8 when you reboot your system.
