Customer was complaining about being unstable and not always seeing HP CDwriter as a writer. Removed and reloaded Adaptec 4.1 software now writes but not reliable. Restored sys from HP restore disk which included fresh format. Still unstable folowing error screens pop up at any given time sometimes by the dozens;Msinn, Iexplorer, Explorer, Rnaapp and backweb. Warm and cold boots to "Active Desktop Recovery Screen" System is using HP MemorySystem is 2 months out of warranty. I am thinking towards a bad chipset. Any Ideas

Go into Device Manager and set each IDE device to use DMA if possible. I know my HP 9100i CD Writer was really picky about that... http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smilies/cwm22.gif

Hi,

I wasn't able to find your exact model number...Pavilion 733 doesn't seem to exist.

Anyway, check HP's link below...enter the correct model number and follow the bouncing ball. It's possible that HP has some updated drivers, BIOS, etc. for that machine.

http://www.hp.com/cposupport/software.html

Also, if we're talking SCSI here, double-check the terminations, addresses, etc. Usually, address 7 is reserved for the SCSI interface card itself.

Also, I know that some media is not very compatible with HP's CD burners...might want to verify with somebody who knows more about which brands to use and which to avoid.

Just a couple of ideas...

Good Luck!
