[RESOLVED] Win98SE installation errors.......

I have recently tried installing windows 98 SE on a friends computer. After reformatting the hard drive and starting the installation i recieved the following error messages numerous times during the installation.
"A fatal exception OE has occured at 0028:C003BDIE in VxD VFAT(01) + 00003DF2"
"A Fatal exception OE has occured at 0028:C00455AE in VxD VFAT(01) + 00003DF2"
Then the following error message was recieved many times in a row and the system would crash after it finally got through the installation of windows:
"A Fatal exception OE has occured at 0028:C005338 in VxD VMM(01) + 00004338"
If anyone knows anyway to "fix" this error please let me know, any help, suggestions would be greatly appreciated http://www.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smile.gif

P.S. The following are the components for the system as i don't have the system here i am strictly going by memory.
Motherboard: AOpen Mx59pro with on board sound and Video
64 MB ram
6.4 gig HD
If further system info is required i can get it......

I would do a couple of things. First, suface scan of the hard drive, second, antivirus. A virus could be lurking in the boot sector that a format won't get out. Also, could be bad cache ram or main ram. Try disabling the 2nd level cache first, then try replacing the main ram chips.

Before going through the hassle of buying new system ram, i would check the very first line of memory your comupter uses at boot up. The video card memory.

Sometimes you can have a card installed that causes these fatal errors in an installation of windows. Go out and buy a cheapie 1 or 2 megabyte Cirrus videocard to install windows with (I've found them for under 10 dollars at Used Computer stores). THEN change out back to your original card. You may see you begin getting the same errors. Consider getting the lattest Voodo Card to keep this from happening forever and ever. Amen.

I'd try a couple of things to add to everyone eles's suggestions, First; with the boot disk in drive A: I'd do a fdisk /mbr, if theres a virus in the memory it will find it when you do this, cause it won't be able to format the memory, then I'd do a low level format of the H/D (this will put the H/D back to factory specs, and its the only way to completely erase the H/D) (some BIOS offer this function) then the Fdisk and a format c:/s then boot with cd support, on the HD make a directory called WIN98SEF, go to the win98se cd, and copy the win98se directory, to the directory on your HD. Take out the cd, at the C http://www.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/tongue.gifromt Go back to the WIN98SEF dir. and run setup from there!

I Have the same error message with aopen motherboard and I try a lot of thing:flush de system,clear de cmos,install and re install win98,install via 4 driver for the agp,sound card..etc...I do not known what to do any more..Please help me..thanks..

Ok I finally got windows installed on that computer but only by ctrl-alt-del everytime that the blue screen came up. As i have said its not my computer and the guy that owns it doesn't want to spend any more money on it, so my options are limited as to what i can do.
The questions i have now are
1. Everytime internet explorer is run it crashes for known error in IExplorer or Iexplorer error in MSHTML.DLL...simple solution be extracting that file using SFC?
2. Everytime he tries to run a game it, will play for a short time then he is booted to the desktop, is there any way of fixing this without going thru the hassel of trying to reinstall windows?
3. Can you just extract internet explorer from the Win98SE CD to reinstall? (thinking maybe that will fix the problem)
Netscape and the internet work fine on his computer it is just the windows related things that don't...and games of course. When I had the computer at my house using a default monitor it worked fine even internet explorer but as soon as I took it back to his place and installed his monitor the problems came back. Any suggestions? before i tell him to burn it? Thanx again

Ok I had the RAM tested and everything is A OK
Does anyone have any other suggestions as to the cause of these problems? Could it be the CPU failing? the cpu fan or the cpu heatsink? I just really need an idea where to tell this guy to start? If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated....

If I'm reading correctly, everything worked fine using your monitor instead of his. Someone else posted a problem solution the other day where the system was responsive (crash vs. running fine) to the specific refresh rate applied to video. If the system is connecting to a plug 'n play monitor it will automatically adjust the refresh rate to each monitor it is connected to. So, try forcing a specific refresh rate, change video modes, or try disabling on board video and installing a new adapter...

My 2 cents- I have Win95 and it was hanging up at shutdown. In an unrelated? problem I was not impressed with my monitor display. Win and the manufacturer both said that it was PnP and needed no drivers. I installed the correct drivers and while the display still sucks the hanging at shutdown dissappeared. I noticed that your video, like mine, shares memory. Might not hurt to try drivers for your brand of monitor. I also am having less errors in IE.

i totaly agree with DR i have a sis 530 video built in and last year i was geting major problems like being booted out of a game to desktop and illegal opwerations and others wich i seem to love leaving in the past by updating my drivers for video card but it could be cache or memory and driver problems..

Had the very same issue with an AMD 333. Underclocked it to 233, and installed OS fine. After installing OS and all drivers, Clocked it back to 333. No problems.
