Here is the situation, I have a PC that needed a new motherboard and cpu, totally different then original hardware, now when I try to boot with the original hard drive I can not get into win98, only have access to save mode, now I now this is because of the new hardware, I have tried to delete the ernum keys out of the registry so the new hardware gets detected, still can not boot into normal win98, any ideas on how to proceede from here, laying windows ontop of windows did not work either. Any sugestions would be great.

While in safe mode,
go to start/run/ msconfig and uncheck all the boxes under the startup tab.
Would also delete all entries in device manager. I mean all, everything.
Doing the delete of the enumerator was a good idea.
Hope this helps. <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0">

What happens before you go into Safe Mode?
just the option screen?
Normal Boot doesn't work?
what happens when you try Normal boot from Option screen?

You'll probaly have a lot less stress if you formated and re-installed your OS

You'll always learn more if you try everything before the format that way if you totally screww your sys in the process the things can be fixed with the FDISK /MBR or Format.

When I tried to boot into normal mode it would just sit at the Win98 logo screen with the bar at the bottom still moving. Would never get past logo. What I did finally do was rename win.com and rename windows folder, install windows into its new folder, did not whant to format do to to much data on drive. I still wish there would have been a way for the old windows folder to recognize the new motherboard and processor.
