Compaq1580dt - defrag

Got a compaq 1580dt loaded with Dr solomen AV & win95. everytime i start defrag machine freezes needs to reboot no defrag whatsoever.
Ha Ha I will upgrade to win98 me thinks to sort this out, upgrade bios etc. start defrag still the same freez reboot no defrag.

Any / all ideas please

Try disabling Dr. Soloman before you defrag (defrag sees most AV apps as something writing to your disk)or try booting into safe mode and running defrag from there.
