Just did a full install of Win98SE and Office 2000 Professional as well as CD burner apps. Rundll32 is running in the backround at startup and I don't know why. I haven't seen this before.

Any ideas (Power profile is NOT running)?

"Rundll32.exe is used by Windows to launch actions defined in DLLs. One of its capabilities is running Control Panel tools (applets)."

It can also launch other Windows tasks such as shutdowns, mouse button swaps, keyboard/mouse activation/deactivation, start Explorer, etc.

Now I know what it does, but WHY would it remain in the backround task list?

This will run in the background if you have the "Display options" icon on the taskbar. You can uncheck this by going into display settings, clicking Advanced, and unchecking the box that says, "Show settings icon on taskbar". when you reboot, rundll32 wont be in there anymore.

This is the monitor icon that you can right click on for quick acces for chaing screen resolution and color settings.

It may ALSO be from one of your other background tasks. if that doesn't take care of it, then run msconfig, uncheck things one by one till it goes away, and you'll know wich one it is.
