Customer just starting having trouble
where when you open up a Excel doc from the network drive it takes up to 5 minutes to completely open the document. I can copy the document to the local machine and it opens up just fine.?? I've reloaded Excel replaced network card replaced cable through the wall nothing seems to help. Any help would be appreciated.

Okay, the first thing that I would do would be to try to determine if it is the local computer, the server, or something else.
Can the file be accessed quickly from another computer on the network? If so, then the problem lies somewhere in the entire pathway from the network hub to the first local machine.
If the file cannot be accessed quickly form another computer, the servers connection could be the culprit.
I have seen time when one port of a hub have caused similar problems. I think that I would, if possible, reset all physical network connections and reset the hub by cycling power on it.
I have also seen where the wall termination was not properly wired; it would allow communications but created lots of lost packets.
I have a 100-foot cable that I have used to wire directly from the problem computer to the hub. This may be something that you want to try.
Does this problem exist with any other type of file?

Thanks for replying,
I have brought a machine from another room and plugged in there and it worked just fine.
It only seems to happen in excel, no problems with word or access. Virus scanned local machine and HD of server says no viruses. It is running client32 on it but all other machines are too with no problems.
Couldn't figure this one out.
