Okay I have a customer who has this problem and I have tried everything to figure out why he keeps getting this "DDHELP" error message when playing certain games and trying to use his Microsft Sidewinder gamepads. I thing it has something to do with Direct X and the soundcard drivers but am not sure. Its win 98 and I am seriously wanting to figure this out. Thnax a million if anyone can help!

Get the latest driver from the sound card company and download DirectX 6.1 from MS. download the latest driver for the Sidewinder, if there is any. After that, I'm not sure what else to do. Latest drivers for the video board too, but that's probably not that important.

I have found that Microsoft controllers do not always work properly on non ISA soundcards. THe best test for the pad is to ry it ( if possible ) on an ISA Soundblaster 16 or AWE32/64. This is the best test to see if the files are corrupt or the gameport s not polling correctly
