I have my hard drive partitioned and I would like some advice on an upcoming format. I have Partition Magic and the Magic Mover software that came with it. I also have an HP Rewriter. I have, at one time in the past, made a disaster recovery set with the HP software and then just stored everything in My Documents that I added from that point forward. I would then back this folder up weekly. However, when I formatted some months ago and tried to restore form the CDRW that I had created, much of the data was corrupted and the restore operation had to be aborted after running for 14 hours. HP tech support said that the restore option for the Simple Trax componet was really only made for no more than 150 Mb. My questions are this: What is the best method to back up my data AND test the restore process. When I format, could I simply move Windows to a partition that is now empty, format that partition, and reinstall Windows keeping it to itself? I know these are some very broad questions but in the last format I lost about 200 text documents and I really needed some advice before proceeding on this one.
Thanks,

Jeff Farrar

For backing up the entire system it has to be Norton Ghost or Powerquest Drive Image.

You can then write the images to a CD and restore from dos.

As for documents, as you have a re writer just use explorer and drag the my documents folder to the cd icon.

Alternatively, just create a new folder with a date and dump it all in that.
