I have several duplicate lines appearing when going to Run/MSCONFIG/Startup. Where do I need to go in the registry to delete these lines? I also have programs that appear in the box of available software to delete when going to "Add/Remove Programs" that have been removed but still show up. Where in the registry do I go to delete these entries? Sorry for posting this question again as I asked a similar question some time ago but the reply was not specific enough for my limited knowledge on the registry.

Thank You,
Jeff Farrar

As far as the programs that are still showing up in the add/remove window, just try to remove them again, generally windows will detect that the programs has been remove and ask you if you want to remove the name from the list. Otherwise you will need to go into your C: drive and find the folder that the uninstall left behind and delete it.

As far as the Run/msconfig/startup, these are programs that are running in the background of your system, The programs that startup during a boot, then continue to run on your computer, the only way I know to remove them from the list is to uninstall the program. The best way that I know to speed up your computer, is to just uncheck the ones that you don't want to run, all the time. Be careful NOT TO uncheck the Scan Registry, or the system tray.

Open your registry editor, Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run. The programs that show in the MSConfig startup tab will be there. Uncheck them in MSConfig before you remove them from your registry, to make sure they aren't essential. I would leave the "LoadPowerProfile", "ScanRegistry", "SystemTray", and "TaskMonitor"...along with the (Default).
