I have had two recent complaints from customers that have me a little baffled. The entrys from the Programs section of Windows disappear with the exception of "Startup".

Both people are using Windows 98 SE and both were on the Internet before shutting down their computers. Upon the next bootup, the shorcuts were gone.

I would appreciate any ideas you might have on this.

I'd run a good virus check. There is a virus that wipes out the start menu in Win95. It may effect 98 tooo.

You sound shocked that Windows could do such a thing, it's the nature of the beast. I do agree with getting a virus checker though. Also trying poking around in the windows folder under start menu and see if you can see them through explorer. Check the recycle bin too. If they have the active desktop enabled they delete anything from the start menu they want or accidentally didn't want to want....? you get the idea.
