All computers with a 24x cd have crashed on 98 setup. Any suggestions? It works fine if 95 is installed first but that is a pain.
Working off of a SIS 5577 Amibios board. Board prod number is GCT8STB

A little trick I have found to work with Win95 and Win98 loads. Fdisk, Format, Transfer command files to hard disk, copy mscdex.exe to hard drive, install CD-ROM Drivers, reboot. Create Win98 Directory, copy all files from Win98 Directory from CD to C:\Win98, install from there. Mitsumi, Cyberdrive and alike doesn't always like the CD-ROM drivers that come with Win98 boot disk. And after your done, if you wish, remove the drivers from config.sys. I leave them there incase I have to do some work in the DOS level. Have fun.

You could also go to the Device Manager and look under the CD-ROM settings. If the DMA box is checked, uncheck it. This should take care of your problem.

If the computer is "crashing" upon restart, you might want to try installing dos drivers (mscdex, et al.). This is a trick brought to you from the boys at microsoft.
