after putting in any cd in the drive and running it I get an error stating that the prog has changed "DDEML.dll" and windows may not run correctly. What is a ddeml.dll?

DDE is Dynamic Data Exchange, Which is the Core of OLE.

Is this a specific CD?
Does it happen with a music cd?
Do you have any CDs that it doesn't do it with?

You could try restoring the original file from the windows CD Rom...

thanx for the quick reply. It seems to show up when i try to run an older kids game prog. Would the addition of a cdr cause this? It started after the cdr installation. can this file be renamed or moved or deleted?

DDEML.DLL is the Dynamic Data Exchange Management Library. It is a Windows system file and should not be renamed or deleted.

You can try to extract a fresh copy of the file from Windows 98 Setup CD. Please refer to the following article for more information:
