[RESOLVED] Walkthrouh for Dual Boot Setup

Does anyone know a site for a detailed walkthrough to setting up a dual boot machine. I'm really lookin for instructions to dual boot a machine with 98 and NT. I have some ideas on what to do, and how to do it. But I don't want to waste my time if it's all wrong. Thanks.

Install NT then WIN98, NT will recognize the new operating system and put an option for it in the NT's Boot.ini. So next time you boot there should be an option for NT and 98.

Not meaning to trip, but don't listem to fair64. He got this idea, just a little bbackwards. First things firts, make sure you understand 98 and NT filesystem limitations. NT uses NTFS and FAT16, and 98 uses FAT16 and FAT32. Natively, the only filesystem that both can read is FAT16, although you can get these small apps that fix that problem. So here's my config...

2GB FAT32 - 98 and some apps
2GB NTFS - NT and some apps
2GB FAT16 - MP3's, dowloads, anything I need to share between the two OS's.

Once you get something worked out, install 98 first. Once 98 is installed, you should have only one partition (2GB FAT32 in my case), and the rest free space. Insert your NT CD/Bootdisks, and reboot to NT setup. Setup and install NT, and when you reboot, you'll notice three choice's in the NT Boot Loader:

1. WinNT
2. WinNT VGA
3. Win98

Now those aren't the exact tags, but you get the idea. Now your OS's are installed! Now if you ever want to uninstall either of the OS's you are gonna need to do some things. If you delete the NT OS, the easiest way to get back to a straight 98 bot is to insert your 98 Boot disk and enter these commands:

fdisk /mbr

sys c:

There could be other ways, but that's the easiest for me.

If you scrap 98, then that's a different story...one I truthfully can't help with.

Sorry about that, InTheWayBoy is correct, it has been a long time since I have created a multiboot setup with NT, I should have checked my info first.Thats what happens when you try to answer at 5AM.

Don't be too hard on fair64 as you can install NT first then Win98!!!! All you need to do after installing Win98 is to rerun the NT setup and choose repair existing installation. This will only work if the partition is FAT obviously.

Darren is right, It can be done both ways as long as your dealing with a fat16 partition.

My question is there a way to triple boot off the same partition?
Example:
8 GB hard drive 2GB partition of fat16 and 6GB partition of NTFS. NT resides on the fat Partition.
I need to boot to WinNT Dos and Win98. Am I dreaming or is it a Fdisk and redo?
