Direct Cable Connection

Having a problem connecting two computers running win98. On the host computer all serial ports show as already in use.

Comm 1 - Modem
Comm 2 - Mouse
Comm 3 - empty
Comm 4 - empty

Any suggestions to get around this problem?
I am using a Serial null moden cable.

Try to disable the modem for the time of the connection of the two computers. Aslo I use a good parallel port connection it works better and there is no conflicts
