I've got a system that for some reason when it starts up, it doesn't show the ms networking login screen. I could tell it to close all programs and login as a different user and it would work, but not automatically at startup. I upgraded to win 98, thinking it might replace some damaged files and correct the problem, but it didn't. Any suggestions short of reformating the hard drive and reloading?

try removing all network stuff, reboot the computer, remove all .pwl files in c:\windows, reinstall network stuff, and reboot computer.

in control panel - network applet, have a look to see if Primary Network login is set to 'Client for Microsoft Networks'. if it isn't, change it so it is.
