My case has an automatic shut down when I close WIN and it worked fine with the original WIN98...after I installed WIN98 SE it won't shut off anymore...techs have looked at it and can't seem to fix it...Power management is shut off but they say it seems to be going into a power down mode...Can someone help because it seems to be causing problems with programs because it can't be shut down properly...Thanx

If your trying to shut down and it is stuck on the splash screen "Windows is shutting down", then you need to go on the Windows Update site and download the Windows 98SE shut down patch.
If your problem is the computer won't shut off, then that would be a setting in set up, and also could be the lack of the shut down patch.

I agree with EaglePC...
Also powermanagement should NOT all be disabled in the bios to get it to shut down automatically, you need to leave part of it on, depending on BIOS to tell your pc that the on/off etc is controlled by the OS....
One thing that also works as a long shot is going into device manager, under system and removing "advanced power management" then restarting system.

If using the default windows shutdown, then the Microsoft patch should fix this problem.

However, if using a piece of 3rd party software; a one-click 'shutdown.exe', then it may not fix it in the long term. Win '98 SE just has so many bugs concerned with shutting down/non release of IP address etc.

God knows why.
