control panel multimedia

help, when in control panel double clicking on multimedia produces nothing. Been to Win/Systems mmsys.cpl, that won't open either. Have uninstalled multimedia components in add/remove programs windows set up, reinstalled still doesn't want to know. Any ideas PLEASE!

If it's 95B or later then just reload OS over itself. Does not take that long and the actual work time is very low. Usually fixes wierd problems like that without having to pull your hair out over them.

Oh yeah copy cabs to HDD... much faster that way.

I ripped the head assembly out - it spins up fine now...

Thanks for the suggestion, have reinstalled Win 98, no change I'm afraid. Any other ideas?
