A month or two ago, I was using the computer (WIN98SE) and I went to go open a folder and noticed it was messed up. No problem right? I would fix it but I couldn't. It forced me to reinstall. I wanted to but my dad wouldn't let me format the computer. I told him I could backup his stuff but anyways, I reinstalled. It went fine! The folders were fine and everything but then I faced another problem. The Help.exe file (found in the start menu) and Windows was hanging on shutdown. I fixed the shutdown thing by downloading the supplement (again) from the Microsoft site but the help thing still exists. Can anyone tell me what I can download or do? I really want to format but is there anyway around it??

E-mail me please: VOZMAN@aol.com

Thanx

I don't think it is necessary to format your drive again. Just insert your Win98SE CD in your CDRom Drive. Change the BIOS Settings so that your PC boots from CD and runup an install. It will come up with a message asking you whether you want to quit install because your PC has an operating system or whether you want to replace the existing operating system. Choose to replace existing operating system. This should fix the problem. Let us know whether this works or not.

what was the problem with the Help.exe file (found in the start menu) ??

was it missing... if so.. you wouldn't need to reinstall windows.... you could just extract it from a windows cab file or run sfc (system file checker).

or...

you could goto add/remove programs, and remove the help bit (somewhere in there, sorry). Reboot, and then add it again...
