There is a computer that I work on that has Win98 and I want to Start Menu to look like the one in Win95 (no scrolling, multiple columns instead). How do I do this?

Thanks.

I believe Windows ME and 2000 have this option, but not 98.

Try opening the display settings in control panel and then select the effects tab. there is a checkbox for "Animate Windows, menu and lists". uncheck it and see if this is what you are looking for.

if you really do, you could install w95b¬!!!

i used to hate that multi column stuff. I now sub-divide into headings and shove related stuff into them, i.e.

GAMES,
INTERNET
BACKUP APPS
MICROSOFT

etc

works much better and keeps the clutter down

IMHO

In Regedit:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ explorer\ Advanced

Select New and then String Value from the Edit menu, and type StartMenuScrollPrograms as the name for the new value. Double-click on the StartMenuScrollPrograms value, and type FALSE as the data for this value. Click OK and exit regedit

It should start working right away. If it doesn't, try doing the same thing in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ explorer as well

Thanks.

Whenever I install something at home, I make sure that the start menu entries are in a sub-group. But I also have 98Lite at home. This computer as Win98.

Thank you for the reg tip. It's exactly what I was looking for. I'll try it out.

Thanks again.
