Registery Errors

I'm having problems with the Win98se Registery when I boot. It nearly always says that there's a problem with my registry and scans my user.dat and system.dat files and either says it has/has not fixed the problem.

The weird thing is Windows runs fine it is just taking ages to boot, does anybody know a way to turn of the registry scan on boot or experianced this problem before.

All sugestions welcome.

Remove the Scanreg entry from the registry. Should be under HKLM/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/run or runservices.

Registry errors are often a sign of a memory problem. Could also be caused by a virus or startup program.

To get a useable registry you can rename system.dat and copy the system.1st file to the windows folder as system.dat. This file is created during the installation process and is a good recovery option if you don't have another backup of the registry. Be aware that a lot of your programs will need to be reinstalled if you choose to do this. It could be a problem in the user.dat file also but I don't know of any way to fix this without reinstalling windows.

Start > Run > msconfig
Goto the 'Startup' tab & deselect 'ScanRegistry'.
