Greetings all-

I have here a system that is freshly formatted. Put Windows 95 on it (OEM version). Installation goes fine. When it tries to load the first time, it locked up on the Windows clouds screen. Rebooted, tries to load in safe mode, locks up there also.

Bootlog shows the following files failing on load: Vshare, V86mmgr. V86mmgr failing is the last message in the log file.

Anyone have any thoughts?

This is an older system - Pentium 166 with 16 megabytes of RAM (SIMMS). Hard drive is new.

Could this have anything to do with the way this drive has been FDISKED? This drive is FAT32, but I'm not sure if this version of 95 supports that...

Thanks,

Al

V86mmgr errors are sometimes IRQ related. If u have a soundcard, modem etc. installed, rip 'em all out. c if this helps; if it does, start adding the cards back 1-by-1, until the error re-appears. That cards the problem then. I wouldnt worry about the vshare error 4 now. Try sorting out the V86mmgr error 1st.

If by chance, you are loading WIN95A on a FAT32 drive.....it will not work. I would re-partition with a 95 boot disk that matches the version you have and start over !!

What I would do would be to take all the cards out except the graphics then fdisk the hdd and do a clean install via CD+Boot disk. One windows is stable then add the cards 1 by 1 restart each time allow windows to detect (ahem) the cards reboot each time and see if the problem re occurs so doing a little trouble shooting on the way. If all goes well job done.

OK quick question:

This is Windows 95 OEM version. Should I Fdisk it to support FAT32 or not? I didn't fdisk it to start out with, I simply re-formatted. Run I run Fdisk, it does say that the partition is FAT32. Could this be my problem?

Thanks,

Al

OEM 95a or 95osr2 or 95b if you have any doubt format in fat16 (95a), you can always convert later..
