[RESOLVED] Upgrade CPU?????

Hey guys.....I have a Compaq Presario with 475mhz...128mb ram...a 10gig and a 20 gig hard drive..although the 10gig is almost used up...should I invest in a CPU UPGRADE??? Would it make much difference? And if I do will it cause more problems....let me know your advice...thanx <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0">

Since it is a 475 I am gonna assume it is a K6-2...since the K6 line topped at 550 I don't think you would notice enough difference, if the board would even support it.

I don't think a K6-2 processor would be incredibly expensive, but I don't even think Presarios let you remove the processor or anything. But I may be wrong...

They come out all right but you either have to pull the PS to get to it or take the the other cover off and swing the MOBO out to get to it.

Well, if you're looking at taking on the cost of a new motherboard and processer, you'll definately notice a change, and it'll likely be well worth it, but if you're only looking at going 100 to 150 mhz up, I'd stick with what you have.

Although slapping in a new board and processor would also allow you to overclock and that's a noticeable difference in performance for a small amount of dough.

Can the Presario case accept standard motherboards? Would you have to add a sound card or modem to replace any "daughter boards"?

this config will give your system new life - and it's upgradeable too - you can add more RAM and CPU till 1.33 GHz (Tbird)
