First I would use Windows find to see if NTKERN.VXD is in Windows\system\vmm32. If it is there try moving it out of vmm32 to Windows\system. If you still have the same problem make a new folder and drag NTKERN.VXD into it. Do a restart.
If none of the above worKs you will have to go into your Windows CD and look for NTKERN.VXD in the cab files. I can't remember where it is in Windows 95, but in Windows 98 it should be in cab 52 + or - one file. In Windows ME look in cab 20.
I though that Windrivers had Windows VXD file on there advanced search page, but I don't see them there. That would have saved you some search time.

this an vertural device problem. ntkern.vxd
It does not sound like a windows problem but a program problem. First you want to goto search (ntkern.vxd) if it comes up right click to properties and find out which program it belong to then you copy the file from which storage device you got the program from and place it back into the file where you found the damage then restart. that should solve the problem. I had a simular problem with Norton systemworks

do you have an AMD cpu running at 300MHz or faster? If so, you will need the patch from Microsoft for this.
