USB Device - Drive Letter Conflicts!

I've just installed a Memorex USB Combo Card Reader (Compact Flash and Smart Media) which installs itself as two removable drives on my Win98SE system.

It has all installed fine and works well. However...

When I rebooted, the removable drives decided that they would become D: and E: and so my CD-ROM is now F: which my games don't like!

I've fiddled with the drive settings for both the card reader and the CD drive to try and force the CD to stay as D: (I've set this as D: and the card reader as E <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0"> but the best I can get is one card reader at D:, the CD at E: and the other card reader at F:

Any help on sorting these drive letters and making them stick?

So if you force the cd-rom onto D in the device manager, and force the USB card's onto E and F, they still jump around??

I like to force CD-ROM's onto R from the beginning if the PC is not going to be on a LAN, to save this headache from happening later down the road!!!!!!!!

You could always force it to like R, and re-install games, but depending on how many you have, that might not be a viable option.

Yup! PITA or what!

My current config forces the CD-Rom onto D and the USB onto E (only one device entry but two drives) but I end up with the CD stuck in the middle!

Go figure...

Try uninstalling the usb device, hard boot.
Than force CD-Rom to stay at D: Than install usb device, they should follow the cd-rom E: & F:..

...nope!

I've tried everything but the best I can do is get the CD Drive sitting between the two removable drives.

It's a pain because I want the drives connected all the time, but it looks like I'm going to have to unplug it when not in use <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0">

i dont believe its not possible to force the usb to keep a drive letter - or at least the cdroms...!!!
