presariosucks

I have a system that has trouble booting. Sometimes I get "Cannot read drive z:", "Invalid system disk", "command not found, command.com". Most times a boot disk can not even get it started. After powering on and off many times, sometimes the system will start Win98 and run fine. Could anybody give me a few common causes of these errors. Thanks for any info.

Hi,
I had a machine that was having similar problems. I was getting a variety a errors while booting and the few times I could get to a dos prompt with a boot disk(or if you have a presario the recovery or quick restore disk) the system would freeze while trying to run any dos commands (scandisk, fdisk, scanreg). It turned out to be the mobo. I popped the hard drive into another system and it booted up fine. Mabey something you could try.
