Aloha Everybody,
I want to format and partition my Compaq and I'm having a bit of a problem. Whenever I mess up the computer, I use the Compaq restore disk to reinstall Windows and unfortunately all the other junk on the disk. My problem is that I have to open the case and unplug any/all third party hardware (CDR, 2nd harddrive, etc). What a hassle! I have a Windows98 CD, can I use this disk instead of Compaq's restore disk and avoid all these unplugging problems?

Thank you in advance for any/all advice and comments!

The problem you have with Compaq's is drivers for the sound & modem etc!!! If you install a generic windows you then have to try & get all the 'proprietry' drivers from ??????? ... The Recovery CD restores a 'ghosted' type image of the Harddrive with all their own, but never to be found, ANYWHERE drivers....
BTW:- don't Fdisk & wipe the 1st 'non-dos' partition (about 2Mb) or you will loose your 'F10 BIOS', (it lives on the Harddrive)...

You can obtain the BIOS DISK from Compaq on line. You may have to search the site but once you load the Bios at the 2mb Partition, then you will be able to Load the full ver of Win98 SE from the CD Boot from the CD ROM and install.
Have a Great Day!
