Hi all,
I used the tip on this site to remove some programs from my system tray. However, other programs that still have icons in the system tray do not show up when I look in the registry folders suggested. Does anyone know where these other icons are hiding, how they end up in the tray and how I can remove them? Some buggers still there are MSN Messenger, ICQ and Yahoo Instant Messenger. Thanks.

Jonathon,
Not all programs loaded during startup will show up in the registry. They may be loaded from your autoexec.bat or config.sys files, or in your startup folder. Try looking in those also.

i dont know exactly what tips youre talking about, but in win98 you can run "msconfig" from the run line. then go to the far right tab. all you need to load is systray and explorer. asfar as those specific programs go, you can always open the program and go over to the options. they normally have the option to load a program on start up there.

also, if the program itself is configured to run at startup it will add itself back to the startup group and run the next time you boot the machine....go into each program individually and uncheck any reference to running at startup
