44 byte .CDA files

First, I apologize if this topic has been already discussed, but there doesn't seem to be a search option anymore.

We have a computer that a customer installed a Sony CDRW, inwhich the SonyAB program destroyed the DAE codec, causing the CDrom to lock on playing audio CD's. By removing the program, the Cdrom now reads the Cd's, but only recognizes the tracks as 44 bytes. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the MS Audio Compression Codecs with no help. Using a MP3 converter, the program will convert the cda files to mp3 without problems, but the system is still unable to play the .cda files. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried going to Add/Remove->Windows Setup and uninstalling CD player, then reinstalling it? In fact, why not just uninstall all multimedia items and then reboot and reinstall. Worth a try...

It's normal for an audio cd to show up in explorer as audio#.cda. You need cdplayer, or some other program; to play the cd. You can either go to the "add/remove programs" control panel, windows setup tab and add it (under Multimedia) or download some other program. Good luck
