Win98se paths

I'm running win98se and need to change my path for access from a dos window. Basically, I just installed the JDK and now need access to the files in \jdk1.2\bin without having to type \jdk1.2\bin\java every time I want to run it. I used to be able to do this in autoexec.bat - i made the change but if I do a "set" or "path" to list the current path, it's only windows and windows\system - what gives? Thanks

Right-click on the program file, take properties -> program -> advanced.
Enable MS-DOS mode and put your path in the autoexec.bat section
