What O/S.
what CPU?
is it over clocked?

soho 10/100 nic
soundblaster pci 128
precision pro joystick
win 98 se fully updated
directx 8
latest drivers installed
trying to use mechwarrior 4
get a performed an illegal operation error
and as previously noted total lock up
insuffiecent memory errors

try one stick of ram at atime to see if it is your Ram.
Are there any unusual beeps at the boot up?

Try booting from a start up disk, its the base memory that is in need of tweeking.

Well reset the bios settings to default and started from there. Machine is working now but still get the performed illegal operation and program startrs up. Then get a clockspl error. But what i can see everyhting is working no reduction in loss of speed or power from machine. reinstalled the software for mechwarrior vengence but still getting error codes. http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum1/noncgi/cwmsmilies/cwm8.gif

Oh and no I did not get any out of the ordinary beeps during post. All was posting fine. (during the kaos) win98 had lost the driver for secondary ide controller. reinstalled it and everything started to go to the wayside. http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum1/noncgi/cwmsmilies/cwm10.gif

Not sure of what I'm saying but clokspl is a specific program that makes the computer think we cannot brun a Cd-Rom.
Midtown Madness 1 & 2 have this.
