PC100 Memory

I have been wanting to upgrade my memory from 64 to 128 MB. My bus is 66Mhz. Do problems arise from using 100Mhz mem modules on a 66Mhz bus? I want to be able to use the module on a 100Mhz bus computer I plan on buying later. Thanks for any info.

no problem using pc-100 on a 66mhz system bus...

if you plan on adding this memory to a system with pc66 memory.....
We never mix pc66 and pc100 memory together, although i've heard rumors that it works fine as long as the pc-100 runs at 66mhz. Don't quote me on this, because we do not mix them.

Problems can arise if you put the pc100 in the first slot. Memory that is spd(serial presence detect)when put in a mobo that supports this, will automatically set the memory specs to the pc100. If the pc100 is say, cas 2 and the pc 66 is cas 3 you could have problems. I have also heard that if the pc66 is in the first slot and is not spd, but the pc100 in the second is, this problem can happen there.
So put the pc66 in the first slot and if you have any problems with the pc100 try disabling spd. Then you can play with the memory settings. Since almost all memory can be exchanged(if from a reputable supplier) it would certainly be worth it to try the pc100 to maintain your upgrade path.
