vXD PROBLEM

I keep getting this message
. A fatal exception OE Has occured at 0028:C0000538 in vxd(VMM01) + 00004338

I have win 98se..128 mb ram..amdk6 processor
a voodoo3 2000 card. What do I do to fix this?

Can you boot into safe mode?
Did you install any programs just before this error started?

No, I didn't install any new programs. Yeah, I can get into safe mode. Sometimes it freezes when I get into it. But I usually can. Also. Sometimes on startup. The compuer locks up. The screen is fuzzy and blank. Is it software? hardware? Thanks for your help!

if it freezes in Safe Mode after a while - I'd check for overheating (may be bad fan..)

and run a RAM test :

I would also consider a CMOS reset and reconfig.

run scandisk.

if everything's okay boot to DOS

(by pressing F8 when it's booting and then selecting Option 5)

type Scanreg /restore
select a date before this problem happened.

A few thoughts:

Try reseating the mem sticks.

You said you're using an AMD K6. AMD CPU's tend to run hot. Is the CPU fan running? Check to make sure. Also try running the computer with the cover off and with a desk fan blowing toward the CPU. If all is well, get a better fan and use thermal grease between it and the CPU. Install a case fan or two if your case doesn't have any.

Make sure the core voltage is set correctly, should be 2.2 to 2.4 volts, the value will be stamped on the CPU.

If the error started showing up after you installed a new piece of hardware, try removing the new hardware. The hardware could be faulty.
