Hi

Does anyone know how to remove a device category from device manager in 95/98?

You can delete devices but not categories. If you remove all hardware devices within a particular category windows is supposed to remove the category for you.

hit start -> run
type in regedit and hit enter
go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Class

here is where the list of categories are kept. be careful about deleting them, however, because if you delete a category, and then run the add new hardware wizzard, that category will not appear in the list. If you remove a device from the device manager, you can verify that it is totally removed by deleting it's entry here and also in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum area.
