I just installed Netscape communicator 4.61 on one of my computers and no I am not able to read my old email under windows messaging.
It looks like it will open, then just quits, Did the same thing from mail under IE. I made IE the default back again and still no luck. Please help. I have some important files in there.

Check your mail account for Pop3 and SMTP settings.
You might have to call your ISP for the correct settings.
If Windows Messaging was working before, you might want to check your default settings, and put Windows Messaging back to default.

But I cannot even open the program up. The settings should not have been disturbed. I just installed OE and Netscape. It looks like it is going to open it up, then just quits

You can check if it's your default, in control panel, internet options, programs folder

IN YOUR LAST MESSAGE YOU SAID YOU INSTALLED OE, WHICH I TAKE TO MEAN OUTLOOK EXPRESS. OUTLOOK EXPRESS IS A PROGRAM INCLUDED WITH IE 4.0 OR WIN98. ALTHOUGH THEY ARE BOTH MICROSOFT PROGRAMS, OUTLOOK EXPRESS AND WINDOWS MESSAGING MAY NOT BE ON THE SAME SYSTEM.
REMOVE OUTLOOK EXPRESS AND REINSTALL MESSAGING AND MESSAGING SHOULD WORK AGAIN
